As professionals, It is very important to maintain current in your field. Listed you will find what we are doing to increase
our knowledge and handling skills!
In October, 2010, we added a new puppy to the Newcomb family, a rottie baby, named “Cici Rider”. We traveled to Penn. to pick her up, and she is “Camelot’s” half-sister. She’s a love bug of a pup and very apt to training.
June 2008, Jessica and Camelot have competed in many Agility competitions, returning with blue ribbons every time!
On November 8th, 2003, Jess attended the equine affaire in Springfield, MA. She had a great time attending various lectures on equine health, training, and lots of shopping. The evening was concluded with the Equine Extravaganza, an event combining equine dance, demos and music.
On November 1st and 2nd, Jess and Max traveled to Williston, VT for obedience competition hosted by the Burlington Obedience Club. On Saturday, Max placed 3rd, scoring 192.5/ 200 and Sunday placed 4th scoring 194/ 200. The 1st place in ME and the two ribbons in VT met requirements for the Companion Dog (CD) title. Max now has begun having titles after his name.
On October 14, 2003, Max earned 1st place with a score of 191.5/200 in obedience competition hosted by the Penobscot Valley Kennel Club in Bangor, ME.
On May 28th, 2003, Jess and Jon attended a seminar “Calming Signals for Canines” hosted by the NHSPCA. Body language of dogs was discussed in great length and there was a film of Norwegian behaviorist, Turid Rugaas, demonstrating and explaining the many types of canine body language. We learned much and see canine conversations through different eyes now. We would be interested to know if there is a feline behaviorist with a presentation such as this… Poor Pete feels misunderstood.
On June 8, Jess and Jon, and the dogs attended the Cocheco Valley Humane Society’s (CVHS) Doggie Walk-A-Thon. Research the annual Walk-A-Thon fundraiser at: www.cochecovalleyhumanesoc.org..
On the weekend of March 29th, 2003, Jess and Max attended a seminar “Understanding Agression and the Problem dog: Working with Serious Behaviors.” The seminar was taught by Ted Turner, a renowned behaviorist. For more information on this seminar go to: members.valley.net/~uvhs.
Jess and Jon attended in January 2003 the Working Dog Foundation’s K-9 First Aid and CPR seminar at the Portsmouth, NH Police Department. It proved to be very informative, and quite fun. For more information on the Working Dog Foundation and their seminars, visit: www.workingdog.org.
Jess and Max continue to train, train, and train! Look for us in the obedience ring!
